Verizon unveils 30-second ad for Droid Android phone; slams iPhone

This 30-second Verizon advertisement began airing last night during the ALCS game between the Yankees and the Angels, and from the looks of things, Verizon’s getting cocky about the Google Android platform — and not holding its breath about receiving the iPhone.

The video for the Motorola Droid phone, after the jump:

…and the official website, here.

Here’s what we do know about the Droid phone:

  • It will have a slide-out physical keyboard.
  • It’s on Verizon.
  • Unlike previous Android phones, it might be powered by the TI OMAP3430 processor — same as the iPhone and Palm Pre — and not the sluggish Qualcomm 528MHz ARM11 that’s in current Android phones.
  • It will run Google Android 2.0 (we’re at 1.6 “Donut” right now; Motorola’s other Android phone, the CLIQ, will have 1.5 Cupcake with a “Motoblur” layer on top of it.)
  • It will have widgets, a nod to the CLIQ’s Motoblur interface.
  • It will have multitasking.
  • It will have a replaceable battery.
  • It will have a 5 megapixel camera with a flash.
  • It will have speech recognition capabilities.
  • Its touchscreen is expected to be 3.7-inches (480×854 pixels; WVGA+).
  • It’s expected to have 256MB RAM.
  • It’s expected to ship with a 16GB microSD card but will support larger capacities.
  • It’s expected to have a GPS receiver.
  • It’s expected to have a 1400 mAh battery.
  • Its dimensions will be 4.6 in. wide, 2.3 in. tall, 0.54 in. thick, and will weigh a hefty 6.0 oz. (In contrast, the T-Mobile G1 weighs 5.6 oz.)
  • It’s expected in November.

Not bad for Verizon, particularly since the Palm Pre is confirmed to be coming to the carrier in Q1 2010.
