Netflix arriving on PlayStation 3 next month

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will have some more competition from Sony’s PlayStation 3 next month, as Netflix just announced that its subscribers will soon be able to stream movies and TV programs from another source.

While the Xbox 360 once had an exclusivity contract with Netflix, it appears that won’t be so after next month. It won’t be entirely easy for PlayStation users, however, as they will have to pop in and play a special Blu-ray disc in the machines to be able to stream content. Then, subscribers can connect to Netflix via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It might be more of a bargain, as Sony’s online video service usually charges between $3 to $4 per program, whereas Netflix has monthly unlimited subscriptions beginning at $8.99.

Are you looking forward to this new deal? If you have a PlayStation 3, would you sign up for Netflix with the availability of this new service?
