PureSilicon's new Renegade R2 SSD lineup handles extreme heat, cold, shock
PureSilicon announced this week the addition of a 256GB capacity model to its new, rugged Renegade R2 solid state drive family.
The SSD meets MIL-STD-810F standards, meaning it can tolerate extreme temperatures, shock and vibration, and can operate in temperatures that range from -40°C to +85°C.
It also offers 255MB/sec sequential read rates and 180MB/sec sequential write rates.
The 9.5-millimeter thick, 2.5-inch SSD rounds out a new lineup that offers 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.

- 34nm flash technology.
- Real-time 256-, 192-, or 128-bit AES (CBC or ECB) hardware-driven encryption/decryption.
- Secure-erase data declassification methods that meet strict government policies.
- Supports Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART), Native Command Queuing (NCQ), Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), and other advanced SATA commands.
- Conforms to SATA 2.6 and ATA-7 specifications.
- Features advanced wear-leveling and over-provisioning techniques to improve performance, prolong drive life, and boost reliability.
All models except the 256GB capacity are shipping this week. That drive, along with encrypted versions of the others, will ship in Q1 2010. No pricing information is yet available.
