Peek releases $99 gadget just for Twitter

Dedicated Twitterers (Tweeters?) have a new option for posting their 140-character thoughts to the web: the TwitterPeek.

Looking a tad like a very thin Blackberry, Peek’s Twitter-friendly gadget features a QWERTY keyboard, color screen and click scroll wheel. Available only on Amazon.com for $99, users get the first six months of unlimited service free, and thereafter one must pay $7.95 per month for service. Unless you spring for the $199 model, then you get unlimited service for life. Free tweeting from anywhere in the U.S. for life!

It could make a cute stocking stuffer, and if it were cheaper, it would make a good gag gift. While I enjoy using Twitter, I don’t see why anyone should pay this much for a device dedicated to a social networking site that anyone could access for free from a smartphone. Or even if you don’t have a smartphone, you can send texts to Twitter or just wait until you get home to a computer. I also don’t see the point of carrying one more gadget around just for Twitter, when so many gadgets are being sold these days with the point of having many different applications and uses in ONE.

But maybe that’s just me. Would you pay a hundred bucks for a Twitter-only gadget?
