Google offering free Wi-Fi in some U.S. airports this holiday season
In another attempt to win our hearts and/or take over our lives, Google has announced that they’ll be providing free wireless internet at select airports across America this holiday season. Yay!
Virgin America has already partnered with Google to offer free Wi-Fi to all passengers, starting today until January 15. Free Wi-Fi will be offered at a few dozen airports from coast-to-coast, including several major hubs like Baltimore (BWI), Seattle (SEA) and Boston (BOS), but I’m pretty miffed that none of the airports in the New York metropolitan area will get in on this. I’m also slightly surprised that San Francisco (SFO) isn’t getting in on this deal since they’re VA’s hub, but perhaps they couldn’t get around T-Mobile’s monopoly on paid Internet at that airport.
This is quite a treat for anyone traveling, and inevitably delayed and stuck in a terminal for hours, this December. Hopefully it won’t be too complicated, ad-inundated or take over your computer. (I still can’t get Boingo off my laptop after paying $10 in desperation for Internet during a three-hour layover in Tokyo last year…)
