Dell sells Motorola Droid for $119 with contract; $80 less than Verizon

Dell Mobility is now offering Motorola’s hot new Droid smartphone for $119 with two-year contract.

That’s $80 less than you’ll pay if you walk into a Verizon store and purchase one.

The deal is only available online. (Other recent smartphones that received a price drop: Palm’s Pre and Pixi, which are now available for $79.99 and $24.99, respectively.)

The difference between those phones and the Droid? Palm’s hardware hasn’t been moving off shelves quite like the Droid has.

If I had to guess, I’d say Motorola and Verizon are making defensive moves to try to keep units moving all the way through the holidays.

That also means the Droid is just $20 more than the HTC-made Droid Eris, also on Verizon. That phone has been called the best Android deal on any carrier — but with the Droid this low, I think that title’s up for grabs.
