Review disputes power-savings potential of solid state drives

I’ve been as guilty as the next person about talking up solid state drives (or SSDs, as they are unfortunately called by the techno-babblists) as a wonderful device for reducing power consumption AND weight in notebooks. And any other system for that matter. But, fact is, I don’t have any review capabilities. So, I feel obliged to point to this great article by CNET that reviews several SSDs from some of the better-known memory and drive manufacturers. I guess you could call this one a mythbuster.

The debate is far from over, but the benchmarking world will have a field day with this issue as we work out just how much SSDs really can help. Definitely read this one.
