Dell supersizes its LED monitors
More extraneous product news: Dell is prepping 22-inch and 24-inch widescreen flat-panel monitors that rely on LED technology and recycled materials. They will use roughly half the energy of comparable technology, responding dynamically to ambient lighting conditions in order to adjust screen brightness.
Here are some key specs for both the G2210 and G2410, which are priced at $279 and $359, respectively, and both carry EPEAT Gold ratings.
- Typical standard contrast ratio is 1000:1
- Response time is 5ms black-to-white
- Typical power consumption: 18 watts for the G2210 and 20 watts for the G2410 (less than 0.15 watts when in sleep mode). This is about half a comparable flat panel, according to Dell.
- VGA and DVI-D with HDCP connectors
- A PowerNap screensaver that dims the monitor to sleep mode when triggered to do so
- Ambient light sensors to respond to brightness conditions
- Free of PVC, BFR, CFR, arsenic and mercury
- An external chassis that contains more than 25 percent post-consumer recycled materials
- A design profile that is 20 percent slimmer than other products on the market and that is up to 28 percent lighter in weight
Dell expects to ship the new monitors in late February.
