New SmartSynch interface uses public wireless networks to ship data to central location
Smart grid technology company SmartSynch has developed the Direct Connect eXternal (DCX) device, an IP-address piece of technology that can collect load profile, power quality, stand-by generator, steam statistics and other data across a utility’s energy distribution system.
The company (which works with 100 North American utilities so far) is pitching DCX as a quick way for utilities to deploy smart grid technology without having to build out a separate network to communicate collected information back to a central location. It is formally certified to work with the AT&T wireless network. The weatherproofed interface can connect to Ethernet, RS232 or RS485 interfaces.
