Greenest billionaires? Guess who's on top...
#1 eco-billionaire according to the “Sunday Times” in Britain: Warren Buffett, the money man of Omaha. He is listed as major player in wind energy. The “Times” just published its annual “Green Rich List.” It’s necessary to note that this newspaper is owned by Rupert Murdoch, but of course he never influences the editorial stance of any of his pubs, right?
Rounding out their top five: Bill Gates for investing in renewable fuel.
Ingvar Kamprad [Mr. Ikea, to you] in Sweden, renewable energy. Marcel Brenninkmeijer of Netherlands, Natural power. Mukesh Ambani of India, Life sciences.
Other Yanks high on the list: Michael Bloomberg #6; Paul Allen #8; Sergey Brin, Donald Bren and Larry Page–all tied for tenth place. Over one-third of the list of 90 consists of American investors including the wife of Senator John Kerry (D-Mass); John Doerr of VC fame; Vinod Khosla, another VC; and a Rockefeller and a Getty, both inheritors of wealth from petroleum dynasties.
