Electric car, solar installer get debut as Vogue props!
Tucked away in my ridiculously ad-plump Vogue magazine from September (just now got around to skimming) was a mini-feature called “Power Players” about some green tech principles. Because I’m still in ramp-up/reading mode, I visited the Web for more information on two of the companies featured in the photo spreads. Here are the ones worth more investigation:
Akeena Solar: Which installs solar power systems in New Jersey, New York, California and Connecticut. The company describes itself as one of the nation’s largest solar installers with roughly 1,200 customers. So, a company that actually does something!
American Electric: Maker of the Kurrent car, which runs on standard electricity and can be driven up to 35 miles per hour. The vehicle is meant for local jaunts only, and the company figures it costs 2 cents per mile to operate. The sticker price starts around $9,800. Not something that I have the extra spending money for, but maybe something to pick up the kids from school? Or schlep to the grocery store?
