The famous Empire State Building is undergong a facelift. But this is not just for looks, not a mere cosmetic makeover. This is a deliberate, expensive green-over.

They are aiming to reduce energy use by 38% and save over $4 million dollars per year at today’s energy costs. 6500 windows will be replaced and building tenants will be given zone energy controls so they can monitor and control their own heat and cooling. Here’s a video on what the building owners are going to do.

The Empire State Building was begun during a previous economic depression–in 1930. Time for some changes. Once again the tallest building in Manhattan the ESB has its own zp code: 10118.
