We’ve long known the issues around trash and landfills are part of a consumer culture. What about the unintended waterfill? Well, Oprah has just shined her TV camera onto the world’s largest trash dump…in the Pacific Ocean. If Texas does end up seceding from the U.S. we could just annex this other trash heap and actually make the U.S. larger than it is now. Think growth. This trash heap = Texas X 2.

Simply scooping thre stuff up would not only be expensive but ineffective. Much of the debris has so broken down it is now in the molecular state according to one scientist.

I recently blogged about one anti-trash crusader who’s determined to cross the Pacific on a boat of plastic bottles. In a tribute to Thor Heyerdahl, his boat will be name “Plastiki.’
