How smart is your wind turbine? Intel is on the case.
Most of the time, when someone says the word “embedded system” to me, I think about a traffic light or some piece of specialized manufacturing equipment or medical technology. Turns out, though, that Intel has an interest in seeing the wind turbine market accelerate (as it were). So, sometime in the future, we might be just as concerned about its volume shipments into the turbine industry and other clean-tech manufacturers as we are today about PCs and data center servers.
Ultra low-voltage Celeron and Pentium processors were part of the wind turbines that were shown off during the Bejing Olympics last year (from a company called Advantech). A second phase is kicking off. This video talks you through how the technology works.
