Where are you on the green tech belief scale?
Here are some stats collected by market research firm IDC at its recent Green IT Forum. The survey base is inherently biased because I’m betting mostly environmentally minded people attend green conferences, but they are worth sharing nonetheless.
- 68 percent of attendees said “energy efficiency” was the think they thought of first when someone mentioned green IT.
- Slightly more than half closely tied green IT practices to cost savings initiatives.
- 63 percent of the responding attendees had some sort of IT hardware recycling program in place.
And, this pair of stats is the clincher.
- 85 percent of the attendees believe that technology will play a role in helping their overall company reduce their carbon footprint or environmental impact BUT only 22 percent of those same organizations actually have budgeted for green IT or corporate sustainability initiatives.
