Amazon's Kindle enters the paperless office fray?

How does your company distribute documents: ala manuals or process updates (ick) and so forth?

If this is a big part of your process, I encourage your IT team to keep tabs on the developments brewing on the wireless reader front. There will definitely be a milestone event this week when Amazon unveils a large-format Kindle device. Check out the tease on this news from ZDNet’s Larry Dignan.

I’ll keep tabs on the strategy disclosed by Amazon on Tuesday, but given the consumer uptick on the Kindle (yes, I own one even though I also have several dozen “real” books waiting to be read on my bookshelf), the business world might consider paying closer to attention to potential roles that the Kindle might play for their own companies. I can tell you with authority that while I struggle with reading PDFs or length documents on my computer screen (usually my notebook, mind you), it is insanely easy to digest information that is on my Kindle. Imagine distributing updates to your tech support staff ala the Kindle, which they could take out into the field. Other field technicians could benefit, certainly.

Anyway, I’m just saying there may be more to this next Kindle introduction than meets the eye.
