India data center deploys HP cooling technology
Hewlett-Packard has scored another real-world deployment of its Dynamic Smart Cooling technology, which became commercially available earlier this month.
The project, located in Bangalore, India, consolidates 14 different research lab data centers into a 70,000-square-foot high density facility. The technology within the lab consolidates a mix of older servers and new racks and blades.
The new facility will include a network of 7,500 sensors located on the racks. Those sensors are the brains of HP’s Dynamic Smart Cooling system, which adjusts cooling based on real-time readings of temperatures throughout the racks. HP estimates that the sensor network ultimately will help the facility reduce power consumption by up to 40 percent when full operational. This is roughly the equivalent of the electricity needed to power 750 U.S. homes. OR roughly the equipment of 7,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. (Out of the gate, the facility should be operating on about 20 percent less power than similar facilities.)
