Utility fires back at Kansas where Lt. Gov. touts alternative energy
There’s now been a lawsuit filed in the case of the rejected coal-burning power plants. Sunflower Electric Power is suing the State of Kansas which denied the utility’s request to build two more coal-powered generating plants. This is just the latest salvo in a battle that may spread beyond Kansas’s borders.
The proposed plants would have produced large amounts of CO2 which is the basis on which permits were denied. There are plans afoot in the U.S. to build near-zero emissions coal plants, but noen exist so far. CO2 is one of the greenhouse gases that enhances global warming.
Meanwhile the Kansas Lt. Governor points out his state’s pushing ahead with plans for more wind-generated electricity. Also, there are eighteen ethanol plants operating or being planned for Kansas, most of those in the western portion of the state where Sunflower wanted to put the two new coal-burners.
