Big brains reax to NOAA global warming warnings
The MIT Technology Review previously glommed onto the temperature rises contained in the NOAA global warming report. Ten degrees or more before the end of this century. Kansas, for example, would have 120 days of highs topping 90 degrees. The Kansas ag industry might try growing sugar cane instead of corn or wheat. So it could be ethanol from sugar cane, not from corn for your grandkids, it they don’t die of heat prostration first. Looks like air conditioning is a definite buy for your portfolio. That is, if you imagine there’ll be enough energy to actually power air conditioning.
Not only will this kind of climate change force new ag techniques and crop changes, it is likely to affect regional weather patterns. Like wind, which I blogged about recently.
The MIT blog contains maps showing how much of the U.S. will get much hotter, based on current greenhouse gas emission increases. This will only increase the pressure on water resources.
Should I be surprised that much of the MSM have not bothered to even mention the NOAA global warming wanign yet? Too busy covering the street protests in Iran and Newt Gingrich, I guess. Besides, won’t the planet just grow up and take of itself for a change?
