Best Buy has long been known for retailing electronics, mostly appliance-sized or smaller. Now they’re hitting the road, or they’re selling road-worthy products. Electric cars and scooters.
Best Buy’s been hurt by the recession, but has already outlived its defunct competitor, Circuit City. The newest electric vehicle at BB? Brammo’s Enertia electric motorcycle. Retails at around $12K. It will debut in a Portland, Oregon, store this month.
BB had already been selling products from Segway in stores along the Pacific Coast, Washington State to California. Altogether BB has well over 1000 stores in the U.S. and other countries. So the potential platform for innovative electric vehicle makers is gigantic.
Currently 70% of BB’s retail revenue comes from home office equipment and consumer electronics, of the smaller variety.
