SunSpec hopes to provide standard IT management platform for solar technology
A new consortium called the SunSpec Alliance is hoping to drum up a standard way for the way that instruments of all types (such as components and monitoring devices) communicate with each other on a solar plant site.
The group is being driven by 10 founding members, including solar performance monitoring company Fat Spaniel Technologies. I don’t have the complete list of founders as I write this but I know that it includes SMA America and Veris Industries.
Tom Tansy, vice president of marketing for Fat Spaniel, say the companies hope to apply their joint work in the creation of a technical specification that will allow technology from different companies to communicate with each other more readily and that they can be managed across an IT network. He believes the work will apply most quickly in the United States, where solar has been slower to develop than in Europe.
