Recognizing eco-minded young people
Something somewhat light to start your week: An organization called Action for Nature has just released its list of 2009 International Young Eco-Heroes. The awards program recognizing kids who are working on solutions to some of our thorniest environmental problems. Their creativity definitely sets an inspirational example for us older folk to follow.
Although these awards aren’t strictly about technology, one 15-year-old winner of the contest, Otana Jakpor from Riverside, Calif., gets props for her tests of air-purifier technology.
Turns out many of these products actually emit enough junk to qualify for Stage 3 smog alerts. Jakpor’s findings were enough to convince the California Air Resources Board to evaluate and pass regulation covering oone generators. Jakpor also has been awarded the President’s Environmental Youth Award.
Here’s the complete list of winners.
