Clean Energy Summit
This conference just concluded in Las Vegas, home of year-round air conditioning, irrigated golf courses and 24/7 elevator banks. Boy, could that city use some clean energy. Renewable energy execs want to see the U.S. move faster into alternative energy. Gee.
Example: the CEO of Serious Materials says his firm is now replacing old windows with new ones that are five times more energy efficient. As this rate, he joked, we’ll replace all the old energy-leaking windows in 10-thousand years!
Some clean tech execs see government permitting and restrictions as barriers to getting projects planned and built. One solar CEO said his firm was two and one-half years into a one year project, thanks to regulatory problems with deploying new technologies.
Conference attendees did get the chance to see some Las Vegas use of alternative energy: two solar-powered police stations.
Here’s the conference website, touting jobs. It does not yet contain any summary of the actual event and speeches.
