Verdiem: One million desktops and counting for power management software

OK, so maybe it doesn’t sound like such a huge number when you consider how many copies of Windows live in the world, but power management utility company Verdiem (which has some pretty sweet deals with partners Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft) has hit the one-million-deployments mark for its enterprise power management software, called Surveyor.

A recent deal with Cox Communications for more than 15,000 networked computers helped put the company over the top.The project has already saved Cox roughly 40 percent of its energy costs on the PCs under active management; the company expects to earn a full return on its investment in the software by the end of 2009. One big benefit of the software in Cox’s eyes was the ability for its IT managers to use the Verdiem Sustainability Dashboard and for it to integrate Survey directly with the Microsoft SMS desktop administration tool.
