Nexsan, Falconstor team up for a greener data dedupe process
Storage vendors Nexsan Technologies and FalconStor Software are teaming up to create a joint “green” data-deduplication product that they are calling Nexsan DeDupe SG (or Speed with Green). The value proposition being pitched by the two technology vendors is that this product is not only a speedier deduplication option but that it conserves energy when the system is idle.
The new product (which will be sold through the Nexsan sales channels) pairs the FalconStor File-interface Deduplication System software with some of Nexsan’s hardware lines, which include products such as SASBoy, SATABoy, SATABeast, DATABeast and so on. (These products aren’t necessarily part of the bundle.) One thing that makes the solution different from other dedupe products is support for AutoMAID, which is an energy-efficiency feature that helps storage devices conserve power while they are idle but that keeps them readily available for when they ARE needed. (You and your IT team are in control of when devices are idle and when they are not.) The Nexsan Dedupe SG line will support most major data backup applications, and it supports Oracle RMAN and Microsoft SQL database dumps.
Nexsan DeDupe SG will initially come in six configurations, starting at $49,000. This link leads to an analyst report from Enterprise Strategy Group about the new product.
