The business consulting division for IBM has come out with a new sustainability consulting service that focuses on helping companies measure and address the energy efficiency and environmental impact of their supply chain partners.

The IBM Sustainable Supplier Information Management service is focused on helping businesses define processes and adopt systems to do the following:

  • Track parts and components more closely for source information
  • Improve response time throughout the supply chain when components have been swapped out or replaced
  • Ensure supplier compliance in the areas of quality, environmental practices, business ethics and so on
  • Introduce real-time visibility into supply quality and quality
  • Bring new suppliers and business partners into compliance with sustainability policies

IBM figures that companies could improve their supply chain efficiency by at least 8 percent to 12 percent by applying standards and processes such as the ones it suggests in its practice. It uses its own performance and experience as a benchmark for this statement (IBM tracks roughly 30,000 supplier locations on its own).

IBM’s entire portfolio of sustainability consulting services is listed here.
