Nissan to recycle batteries from electric cars
Nissan will work with Sumitomo to recycle batteries from Nissan brand electric cars. They say this will allow them to lower the price on their plug-ins. A new venture will be formed to recycle the lithium-ion batteries. In the hybrid and electric car field Nissan is hustling to catch up with competitors Honda and Toyota. Nissan’s plug-in Fuga will not hit the streets until next year.PLUG-IN PRIUS
Toyota, meanwhile, will put some plug-in Prius cars on the road. Toyota will release 500 plug-in versions of Prius by January 1. It’s a test model using lithium-ion batteries instead of the nickel-metal hydride used in the current Prius. These first Prius plug-ins may only have a range of 15 miles on just electricity.
FORD GOES ELECTRIC
Ford Motor says it expects to have electric or hybrid cars become as much as 25% of their new cars by the year 2020. To show they’re serious, they’ve appointed a new chief of global electrification!
