Tap Water: Solution to Dirty Hands, High Drug Prices and Political Correctness
Back in high school chemistry I was taught that water is the “universal solvent.” Now it seems to be the universal solution. Tap water is now the easiest way to political correctness. Long ago I blogged here about the pending demise of bottled water and its plastic containers. Another drop in the bucket as Seattle joins those who ban bottled water from city functions. Course they all have to drink Starbuck’s up there, right?
Seattle claims it has great tap water. No word on what drugs you may be able to get just by drinking a glass or two with every meal. Down in Silicon Valley they’re finding birth control substances and other fine drugs in their resevoirs. Perhaps this is an answer to why teenage pregnancy is not such a problem anymore. Just drink the water and you’ll be fine. At my age I’m interested in the anti-inflammatory drugs I might be getting ad hoc.
The anti-bottled water campaign is not solely American. Camden Town, sort of the Greenwich Village of London, is about to ban bottled water. They would follow Islington, which is the Upper East Side parallel in London. A major tabloid there has done a whole anti-BW campaign. And those Londoners still read their dailies because they all ride public transit.
