Empirical evidence: Arctic ice sheets thinner and softer

It often helps to look ouside. A computer is fine but if its model calls for sunshine, might check out the window to look for clouds and rain. So some scientists did just that after satellite data indicated that some thicker ice sheets might be returning to parts of the Arctic Ocean. The human observers on site found the ice was actually thin and soft.

The scientists involved in this survey say it’s more bad news for polar bears. They’re too heavy to use the softer, thinner ice sheets. They found almost no bears in the area surveyed because of the lack of stable ice.
