One suspicious plastic just lost a major supporter. Bispheonol-A (BPA) is suspected of having deleterious healty effects. Now Nalgene, the upscale sporting goods manufacturer says ti wil lno longer user plastics that contain BPA.

Nalgene makes water bottles for atheletes, hikers, bikers, et al. Says the company website “The company recently unveiled its Everyday line, an assortment of bottles manufactured with Eastman’s Tritan™ copolyester. ” They will phase out all manufacture of BPA producst. How can you tell? Check on the bottom for a 7 in the little triangle, that’s the mark of plastic that could be leaching BPA.

The questionable plastic is also widely used in baby bottles. Wal-mart and other retailers are withdrawing such products. While there’s debate over just how dangerous BPA could be, there’s no question it’s losing market share in the plastic world in which we live.
