Buy an ASUS Eee Box mini PC, get free malware!
Proud owners of ASUS’s Eee Box mini PC got more than they bargained for - malware.
ASUS sent out an email to owners of the newly-released Eee Box informing them that malware was accidentally preloaded onto the device’s D drive. ASUS didn’t specifically name the malware involved but it is believed to be the W32/Usbalex worm and is contained in a file called recycled.exe.
If that’s not enough, Register Hardware is reporting that Eee Box they received for reviewing came preloaded with the W32/Taterf worm.
If you’ve bought an Eee Box then I’d scan it (and any PCs it’s been in contact with) with an up-to-date antivirus app.
