First there was Psystar’s OpenMac, now there emerges a new player in the Mac clone market - OpeniMac.

Note: I’ve no idea what the system looks like - at the bottom of the front page is some text that translates to “the photos are purely illustrative.”

Here’s the spec of the OpeniMac:

  • 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM
  • DVD +/-R drive
  • 320GB hard drive
  • Vaguely worded Radeon HD PRO graphics card with 256MB GDDR3 (could be a 2400 or 2600)
  • Optional 19″ monitor

Price is $990 without the monitor, $1,330 with the monitor.

There’s also an OpeniMac PRO system that has a 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive, 20″ monitor and an unspecified NVIDIA GeForce GS graphics card. This system is priced at $1,710.

The Terminos de la licencia seems to contain some interesting tidbits (translated using Google Language tools), containing clauses that state that the supplied OSX is not a pirated copy, that not all applications will function as they would on a proper Mac, and that OpeniMac is not responsible for the use of the system in any way.

2009 could well be the year of the Mac clones.

Thanks to all who sent me the link to the OpeniMac!
