If you’re an Adobe Creative Suite 4 (CS4) user and you want to cut your DVD H.264 video encoding time then you might be interested in NVIDIA’s Quadro CX accelerator.

Fitting a Quadro CX card into your video rendering rig can means that Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 can use NVIDIA’s CUDA-enabled Elemental Technologies plug-in to leverage the GPU on the Quadro CX card to make H.264 video encoding up to 4x faster than using CPU rendering.

The card also provides a performance boost for a variety of features in Adobe’s After Effects CS4 and Photoshop CS4.

The Quadro CX card offers 192 parallel processing cores, a total of 1.5GB of GDDR3 RAM and a total memory bandwidth of 76.8GB/sec. The card offers both DisplayPort and DVI-I output. The Quadro CX is DirectX 10 compatible and can push 2560×1600 pixels through the DisplayPort. The card sucks up 150W of juice and if one card’s not enough then it does support SLI.

The catch … well, the price tag. This card will set you back around $2,000. That might seem like a lot of cash, but if time is money then this could start saving you money quickly.

Comparison against Dual-Core is the fatal flaw, as other posters have said.

N.B. Corei7 is WAY faster than earlier procs at encoding.

I've tested a mid-range speed Corei7 using Handbrake... (Read the rest)
