Seagate announces BlackArmor network storage solution
Seagate has a a new encrypted network attached storage solution to its BlackArmor line.
Two new NAS devices have been announced:
- NAS 420 - 2-drive, 4-bay NAS offering 2TB or storage using Barracuda 7200.11 SATA drives
- NAS 440 - 4-drive, 4-bay NAS offering between 4TB and 8TB depending on drives selected
Both the NAS 420 and 440 supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10 (and no RAID, if you’re feeling lucky …), with the NAS 440 configured RAID 5 by default. The drives are hot-swappable and you don’t need any tools to do the job.
The BlackArmor NAS boxes provide continuous and automatic backup for up to 50 networked systems. With each NAS box you get licenses for up to ten computers. If that’s not enough, additional licenses can be purchased via Seagate.
Both NAS boxes offer four USB ports which allow you to connect the storage device to a UPS, external hard drive or a printer.
Operating system support is listed as Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.
The suggested list prices are as follows:
- $799.99 - 2TB NAS 420
- $1,199.99 - 4TB NAS 440
- $1,699.99 - 6TB NAS 440
- $1,999.99 - 8TB NAS 440
