Taiwanese video card manufacturer SPARKLE Computer has made NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 285 better by packing 2GB of memory onto the board.

The Geforce GTX 285 reference produced by NVIDIA comes equipped with 1GB of video memory as standard. Going with the idea that more is better, SPARKLE have doubled the amount of GDDR3 on the board to 2GB, creating what they claim is a card that is 30% faster than competing single GPU graphics cards.

Here’s the full spec:

  • Model number: SXX2852048D3-VM
  • Graphics Processing: NVIDIA GeForce GTX285
  • Stream Processors: 240
  • Core Clock: 648 MHz
  • Memory Type: 2048MB GDDR3
  • Memory Interface: 512-bit
  • Shader Clock: 1476 MHz
  • Bus Type: PCI-Express 2.0

Do you really need a video card with 2GB of memory? Well, no one really needs a card like this, so a better question is who will benefit from a card with 2GB of video memory? I’d say that you need to be running a game such as Far Cry 2 or Call of Duty 5 on a system with a 24″ or bigger screen, with all the graphics settings turned up to the max. You also need a PC with a lot of power to get full advantage out of this card. Casual gamers don’t need to spend hard-earned cash on a card like this because it would offer very little benefit to them over a mid-range board.
