Apple updates MacBook Pro line

The Apple Store was closed this morning and when it reopened an updated MacBook Pro line was unveiled.

Here’s the scoop:

MacBook Pro 15 inch LED 2.2Ghz

  • 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB memory
  • 1440 x 900 resolution
  • 120GB hard drive
  • 8x double-layer SuperDrive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU with 128MB SDRAM

Price - $1999

MacBook Pro 15 inch LED 2.4Ghz

  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB memory
  • 1440 x 900 resolution
  • 160GB hard drive
  • 8x double-layer SuperDrive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU with 256MB SDRAM

Price - $2499

MacBook Pro 17 inch 2.4Ghz

  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 2GB memory
  • 1680 x 1050 pixels
  • 160GB hard drive
  • 8x double-layer SuperDrive
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU with 256MB SDRAM

Price - $2799

Updates

This refresh of the MacBook Pro line brings with it some welcome updates, such as:

  • RAM increased to 2GB standard (upgradable to 4GB)
  • LED-backlit screens for 15-inch models
  • 17-inch models offer an 1920×1200 resolution display as an optional extra ($100).

Ahhh...Apple vs Microsoft
I remember as a young engineer running, not walking, from a company that gave Macs to its engineers instead of PCs. I found shelter at another company that had bravely embraced Win3.1.
