In a research note emailed today, Nemertes Research says that a “move to a new facility” is the most common trigger for enterprise adaptation of VIP.

Nemertes surveyed 120 IT directors, and found that the 10 most common VoIP “triggers are:

Nemertes interviewed 120 IT executives for its recent benchmark, Building the Successful Virtual Workplace. These are the top 10 triggers that resulted in a VOIP or IP telephony implementation:

  1. Move to a new facility
  2. Replace aging TDM Infrastructure
  3. Need to centralize voicemail
  4. Need to integrate call features across multiple locations
  5. Workforce becomes more mobile
  6. Want virtual contact center
  7. Time for network upgrade
  8. Disaster recovery/voice survivability
  9. Renegotiate telecom contract
  10. Prepare network for future

When I regularly wrote case history stories about VoIP adaptation in the enterprise, the “moving to a new facility”  often came up as the trigger, overarching reason, or both.
