No, not there, but not all that far away, either.

Rather than leave his iPhone in his car, 53-year-old Irwin Koss of DeWitt, New York decided to place the device in his pocket.

As iPhoneCentral’s Dan Moren notes, that decision could have saved Koss’ life. Or at least a great deal of pain.

Here’s how this all went down. Koss’ golf partner fired off a shot from his 3-wood.  Quite possibly traveling at more than 100 miles an hour, the drive from his companion’s 3 wood struck him in the side.

The iPhone was shattered, but in completing that ultimately self-sacrificial act, the doomed device took he brunt of the impact, blocking the ball from hitting a four-inch long section of scar tissue left over from Koss’ prostate cancer operation.

If the iPhone hadn’t been there at the spot the ball hit? You don’t want to know, trust me.
