Wild ringdom: famous zoo deploys VoIP
When the chimp keepers at the Columbus,(Ohio) Zoo need more bananas, they’ll call the central commissary.
Now, they’ll do that over the famed zoo’s new VoIP network.
That’s because the Columbus Zoo has just deployed a 280-phone VoIP network to connect its 50 buildings. The calls will travel over the 90-acre facility’s existing fiber data infrastructure.
The networkis runvia NEC Unified Solutions’NEAX 2000 Internet Protocol Server.
In a statement,Columbus Zoo director emeritus Jack Hanna (yes, that Jack Hanna) said that the Zoo’s new VoIP network offers "improved efficiencies" that "allow(s) our staff to focus on our core initiatives of wildlife preservation, public education and support of conservation efforts in the wild."
