One of the more interesting aspects of going to VoIP-related trade shows is an opportunity to see the underbelly of Internet telephony.

By underbelly, I don’t mean the snazzy new softphones with the sparkling GUIs, or even the software that lets home, SMB and even enterprise users configure and control their devices and networks for the full potential of VoIP.

No, I am talking about the companies that make the session border controllers, open-source PBXs, and VoIP traffic managers.

In the latter category, I’ve been impressed here at the Internet Telephony East expo by a product called VoIP Traffic Manager. kayotesoftswitch.jpg Offered by Kayote Networks, this is a hosted VoIP softswitch that replaces the VoIP backend in an enterprise application.

Witnessed a demo of Version 1.5. Seemlessly handles the grunt work, including security, filtering, routing, user management, performanc statistics, alert mechanisms including escalation alerts that could indicate traffic spikes, both non-suspicious and suspect.

VoIP Traffic Manager is also sold to VoIP carriers who want back end billing and IVR (Interactive Voice Response).

All this makes me remember I’m running a panel on a related topic Friday morning. Wrapping up the day soon, but will be back to ya.
