Now, the city of Tifton is about to be known for a far-newer technology Net2Phone has signed a five-yearagreement with the city of Tifton to enable Net2Phone VoiceLine Broadband Telephony. Tifton will offer the service to subscribers via CityNET,its own, city-run cable system.

Pricing details to follow. We’ll stay on top of this one.

This is an interesting development: a city-owned cable system run by and for its citizens (rather than shareholders) partnering with the private sector to offer VoIP.
