According to Slashdot poster "Zonk," some people are doing just that - turning theirdesktop Skype software into an impromptu personal radio station. In fact, there’s a new name for the practice- "Skypecasting."

In his post, Zonk refers to solutions discussed by "Skypecasters" on sites such as Unbound Spiral and Moodle.

I went toUnbound Spiraland found a document that will walk you through the process of doing a Skype Podcast. Skypecasters Stu Henshall and Bill Campbell estimate it will cost you about $40 for the following equipment you’ll need to get started:

  • Skype (well, duh)
  • Virtual Audio Cables
  • Windows Sound Recorder
  • A .wav to MP3 coverter
  • A copy of iPodder software
