Here's some "alarming" news about VoIP
There’s bad people out there. That’s why many of us have home alarm systems. Meth addicts or other less-than-solid-citizens break in, alarm triggers, and the local constables are called.
Unfortunately, many alarm systems only work with a landline from an incumbent land-line phone company.
Now, someone is doing something about it. As our Ben Charny reports today, Vonage has begun working with Alarm.com on a VoIP-enabled alarm system.
With this $24.95 a month service (free for the first 3 months), you won’t only have standard home alarm protection, but you will be able to log on from anywhere, check what doors, windows and cabinets have opened and closed, remotely control lights or thermostats.
You’ll be able to receive alarm notifications on your cell, PDA or computer if unexpected motion has been detected. Oh, like if there’s activity in the kitchen 30 minutes before your kid gets out of school.
