Just got an email from SIPphone CEO Michael Robertson.

On Thursday, SIPphone is announcing a new service called Area775. If you switch back and forth ‘tween VoIP, cell and land lines like I do, you’ll be interested in learning more.

Which you are about to:

"It’s the first service to give you one number that will reach you on your computer or your mobile phone. It can even transfer calls between the two locations (answer on your PC, click a button and you’re talking on your mobile or vice versa)," Mike writes to me.

He adds that while there other features such as call screening and SMS notification, "the big picture is that this is the first VOIP service to combine the PC calling world with traditional phones making it all seamless. One number for both worlds."

Signup is free from www.area775.com. If you want another area code, that’s $3.95 a month.

Area775 works with SIPphone’s Gizmo Project, but is more than just a phone number. Feature set includes dual ring, call screening, call transfer and voicemail enabled with an SMS notification system that can be configured to send an alert to you after you receive a voicemail.
