Google Apps Standard includes “relevant text based ads along side email,” an optional “feature” in Google Apps Premier, I underscored yesterday in "Google undercuts Microsoft Office."

While advertising is not typically considered a software "feature," Google, as I often underscore, has chosen to ignore conventional wisdom in designing its business.

Google believes all of the multi-billion dollars worth of text ads its sells yearly enhance user experience:

Advertising can be as useful as search results or other forms of content.

Google proudly pitches its advertising-supported Gmail:

There are no pop-ups or untargeted banner ads in Gmail, only small text ads. Ads and related information are relevant to your messages, so instead of being obtrusive, they may even be useful for once.

In fact, Gmail users have even told us that they've found our ads to be interesting and even useful.
