Microsoft vs. Google: Who wins?
Can "underdog" $290 billion market cap Microsoft "win" against $148 billion market cap Google?
Microsoft is already losing the PR battle, New York Times coverage illustrates, once again. An interview of Steve Berkowitz, online services group senior vice president, Microsoft, is headlined as an article about Google, with no reference to Berkowitz or Microsoft!
Moreover, "Looking for a gambit to win at Google's game," puts forth props to Google, such as:
It is no small task to run an Internet operation that can move as fast, be as popular and make as much money as Google.
As a bonus, Saul Hansell appends his affirmation of Google with a negative nod to Google's other key competitors, Yahoo and AOL:
(That explains why Yahoo announced this week that its chief operating officer was leaving, and why the chief executive of AOL was fired last month.)
INTERESTING TO NOTE: The New York Times' International Herald Tribune headlines the Berkowitz interview in a hard-news fashion that accurately reflects the content of the story, has a positive Microsoft spin, and does not reference Google: "Microsoft's new online chief challenges a technology-first culture." Additionally, Hansell's side digs at Yahoo and AOL are not included.
