Microsoft, Google battle for the inbox
Google Enterprise is sounding off to corporations: “You don’t put email in folders,” Microsoft folders, that is, as I report and analyze in "Google to Microsoft Office: Search box trumps folders," following my on-site visit with Google Enterprise at the NYC Googleplex last month.
Microsoft returns the volley by “fighting the trend for corporate employees to duck IT policies and auto-forward all their work email to Gmail,” as put forth by apcmag.
The software giant is urging employers to increase mailbox sizes to 2GB or more…Exchange 2007 includes a number of features that Microsoft says makes the 2GB corporate mailbox not only completely viable, but desirable.
Speaking at the launch of Vista, Office and Exchange in Singapore, Exchange Product Marketing Manager Martha DeAmicis said clustered replication capability means one exchange server (not necessarily in the same location) can back up another exchange server automatically.
The Enterprise Market will be a key battleground in 2007 for not only Microsoft and Google, but Yahoo as well, in partnership with IBM. MORE ANALYSIS:
