Will Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama soon make history?

Will Clinton break through gender obstacles to become the nation’s first female president? Will Obama break through race obstacles to become the nation’s first African-American president? Will they run together on a joint ground breaking Democratic ticket?

Those are NOT the questions I will be pondering at this Digital Markets Blog!

I am chronicling the 2008 presidential campaign focusing on what I have dubbed:

“USER GENERATED POLITICS”

Clinton has gotten an official head start, but Obama will undoubtedly catch up quickly, officially.

“Today I announce my candidacy for President of the United States,” Obama declares at his official campaign Website.

When Clinton announced last month she declared “Let the conversation begin.” Obama declares today “This campaign is about you.”

What I am calling “USER GENERATED POLITICS” 2008 is all about “you” via Web 2.0 participatory media: blogs, videos, online chats, political networks…

Obama is branding "My.BarackObama.com" and wants “you” to:

Create Your Own Profile,
Find Supporters Near You,
Plan and Attend Events,
Network With Your Friends,
Become a Fundraiser,
Write Your Own Blog.

Clinton is branding "Team Hillary Action Center" and wants "you" to:

Help Build Our List of Supporters
Host Your Own Hillary Event
Find Events to Attend
Hillraisers: Set a Goal and Raise It
Be a Guest Blogger

While Clinton and Obama are embracing “USER GENERATED POLITICS” equally, it is notable that the two approached their campaign announcements differently.

“Look at all of you,” Obama began his in-person rally today before enthusiastic supporters in Illinois to declare his candidacy for president of the United States. He also posted the video of his announcement at his Website, Barack TV.

“I’m in, and I’m in to win,” Clinton began her online video monologue at her Website, Hillary TV, to declare her candidacy for president of the United States. She also promoted the replay of her video announcement on network television.
