Presidential Campaign 2008: Rudy Giuliani 'In to win' too?
While Democrat Barack Obama made a formal and rousing declaration to supporters in Illinois of his determination to do all in his power to become the next president of the United States today (see Barack TV vs. Hillary TV: Obama ‘08 announces saying ‘the campaign is about you’), Republican Rudolph Giuliani addressed the Republican state convention in California and “reminded the delegates of their role picking the next president, "I hope…you decide on me."
The New York Sun reports that when asked at the subsequent news conference whether he is certain to seek the presidency or is still merely exploring a campaign, the former mayor of New York City said:
"Didn't it sound like I was committed? Yes, I am committed. This is something I believe that I can bring something to."
In response to a question about whether he had formally announced his campaign with his address Saturday, Mayor Giuliani said, "I think I may have. I'm not sure. I don't know what ‘formally' means. We'll figure out how to do it in five places so we get more attention."
The Washington Post reported earlier in the week that “Rudolph W. Giuliani jumped into the 2008 presidential race yesterday, filing a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission and declaring on national television last night, "I'm in this to win."
On what I am calling the “USER GENERATED POLITICS” front, however, Giuliani has yet to throw his social participatory media hat into the race!
The Join Rudy 2008 campaign Website does solicit “Join Rudy’s Team,” but the touted involvement is merely “Get e-mail from Rudy Guliani. Be the first to know what comes next.”
The Website mainly solicits “Help Rudy start strong: CONTRIBUTE.”
If Rudy wants to continue strong, he is well advised to seek social contributions from prospective voters, not just financial ones.
