Today is the official start of the Lunar New Year: The Year of the Pig!

Across China, revelers brought in the New Year late Saturday and early Sunday with the boom of firecrackers and fireworks, an ancient New Year tradition meant to drive away bad luck and scare off evil spirits. Streets were littered with tattered red paper and cardboard casings from spent fireworks, the Associated Press reports.

Both Google and Yahoo are marking the occasion with celebration logos.

Google features a couple of dancing pigs for its OOs, Yahoo hangs an exotic chinese lantern on its Y and gets the party going with live action fireworks and a shower of confetti.

Of note, Google did not neglect its "L" in this holiday logo (see "Google vs. Yahoo Valentine’s Day competition").
